Be Determined, Stay Motivated

As a Minority of a Haitian descendant, not many people would look at me and say, “That girl is destined for greatness!”

In high school, I was not a hard worker, I procrastinated daily when it came to completing an assignment for a class. All I wanted to do was get by; I figured, “WHO CARES! IT IS JUST HIGH SCHOOL! WHATEVER!” I had no motivation.

It was not until I met an extremely intelligent Haitian girl, that I realized that I had more potential if I just worked a little harder. This young girl was different from all the other girls I formerly hung around with. She was driven and determined! She did not rely on other people to motivate her, she motivated herself, and she lit her own fire. When I saw her, I was taken aback because most people my age did not care much for school, they were too busy dribbling to make it into the National Basketball Association, or writing rhymes to become a rapper. Because of her, I decided that if she could do it, so could I!

“I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me!”-Phil. 4:13
“I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.” -Phil.3:14

“If there’s a will, there’s a way…”

I want to be able to step out of my comfort zone and challenge myself. I want to work hard and achieve numerous amounts of work that no one could ever think that a Haitian girl like myself could achieve. I want to go places and travel the world. Most young people at my age have dreams of being a celebrity or being on television, and there is nothing wrong with wanting to be in the limelight for 15 minutes. But, the plans for my future just happens to be completely different.

My goal is simply to work hard and challenge myself. I want to have a great career in which I could help people, motivate them, and encourage them to become better than they were before. Just like someone helped me.
