Happy New year everyone!!!!!
I hope that everyone had a wonderful entre into the new year!!!
This blog is going to be 3years old soon and I thought I’d do a reflection post on some jobs I’ve held in past and what skills they helped me build and what I learned when I was in those position. I’ve had a total of ten jobs in the past but I will only talk about three of them.
After high school was when I really started working. I was not allowed to work during high school because my parents really wanted me to devote all of my time into my education. As soon as I graduated high school I started working at a small company called “Cutco” as a cutlery sales associate. Now, I thought that job was going to be amazing because I had a chance to dress up and work at an office! Three days later I learned that I would not be getting paid UNTIL I sold the Cutlery (knives, ice cream scoopers, etc.)! I was very upset so I quit!
What I learned: I learned how and why I should build relationships with my customers.
I learned how to communicate and how to land a sale.
The next job I had was at Dillard’s which is a high end department store. Back then when I was working in that company I thought it was the worst job because of all the quotas and the sales goals I had to achieve. But three years later I learned that it was my BEST job!!!
Here why: I got a wonderful pay each week, a 25 percent off discount and a 1 hour break for lunch.
Skills I learned: I learned how communicate with strangers.
I learned how to be genuinely interested in a person’s needs.
I learned that the real world is full of competition and if I didn’t grow a tough skin then I would not survive!
The last job that I had and am currently working in is being a substitute teacher. Now depending on who you are you may think think that is good! But…it’s a challenge!
What I learned: I would rather teach high school students than elementary students. Elementary students talks so much!
More posts coming soon!!
Be blessed, be BOLD, and don’t forget that you are fearfully and wonderfully made!
